Downstream Strategies is proud to sponsor the Clean Water for All 2024 concert headlined by Sierra Ferrell on January 9, 2024 in Charleston, West Virginia! The West Virginia Rivers Coalition, West Virginia Environmental Council, and West Virginia Highlands Conservancy are hosting a free event to mark the 10-year anniversary of the Freedom Industries chemical spill into the Elk River that affected nine West Virginia counties. The show is on January 9, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at the Culture Center in Charleston.
On January 9, 2014, over 300,000 West Virginians were impacted by the Freedom Industries chemical spill when an aboveground storage tank leaked chemicals into the Elk River upstream from West Virginia American Water’s drinking water intake. The catastrophic incident set forth a clean water movement in West Virginia to hold polluters accountable and a call to action for government officials and the legislature to protect our drinking water for future generations. Downstream Strategies is committed to helping communities obtain and maintain clean drinking water through source water protection planning, water monitoring, and stream restoration services.
