Watershed and Water Stewards Capacity and Needs Assessment: Upper Ohio River Basin
The Headwaters to the Ohio (H2O) Water Network contracted Downstream Strategies to carry out an assessment of community-based watershed organizations (CWOs), which included identifying and inventorying relevant groups, designing and distributing a survey, and conducting interviews with representatives. This report introduces the topic of CWOs and presents the characteristics, strengths, and challenges of a variety of water- and natural resource–focused stewards and organizations located in 14 counties in western Pennsylvania.
Reclaiming Appalachia Mini-grant Assistance
We provided technical assistance to community groups in Kentucky as part of the Reclaiming Appalachia Mini-Grant Program. Community priorities range from securing clean drinking water to diversifying local economies that have historically depended almost solely on coal mining. We are creating renderings for these projects and estimating their local economic benefits to lay the groundwork for successful grant proposals.
